All of the decorative concrete crosswalks have been constructed on Rayen Avenue. The crosswalks on West Rayen Avenue have cured and traffic has been restored from Fifth Avenue to Wick Avenue. The crosswalk that spans the south end of the North Champion Street and East Rayen Avenue intersection is still curing, so the adjacent block of North Champion Street remains closed to traffic.

The final application of asphalt and painting/striping still remain to be done.

New traffic and crosswalk signals at the Park Avenue and Belmont Avenue intersection were installed over Winter 2023, bringing the project to a close.

The Fifth Avenue phase of the SMART2 Network project is now complete. The street has been open to traffic since the beginning of YSU's Fall 2021 semester, but supply chain issues delayed signal delivery and installation, as well as completion of final aesthetic touches.

The redesigned Fifth Avenue is now safer and more accessible for all modes of transportation: motorists, public transit, pedestrians, and bicyclists. It also makes a great visual impression. Click the link below to view a slideshow of the finished project.
