SMART2 Progress - Fifth Avenue - Rayen to Arlington
Public Works - May 6, 2021
The SMART2 Network project's Fifth Avenue construction continues in earnest, with the onset of Spring. At this phase of the project, all portions of Fifth Avenue, from the Eastbound Service Road to West Federal Street, have seen some construction work, with completed sections receiving landscaping treatment.
The blocks of Fifth Avenue, between West Rayen Avenue and Arlington Street, have recently seen some of the project's most intense construction work. In the photo, note the bus stop pullover being constructed on the left (southbound lane, next to Taco Bell). Given the "road diet" lane-reduction component of the redesign of Fifth Avenue, bus stop pullovers are an important part of the strategy to maintain the proper flow of traffic. Several pullovers are included throughout the redesigned stretch of Fifth Avenue, with a special emphasis on the University area.
