Clemate Franklin

Clemate Franklin vows to follow God’s lead as the Executive Director of Parks and Recreation in the City of Youngstown. He joins from Youngstown Central Branch YMCA. While there, he served 10 years, including the Health and Wellness Coordinator, during his time at the YMCA he facilitated youth programs, organized fundraisers, and instructed multiple fitness classes. Clemate also has experience facilitating intramural sports, at The Youngstown State University. Clemate takes pride in serving as a workshop specialist for the Mahoning County Board of Developmental Disabilities (MCBDD), Medical Professional at Select Specialty Hospital and Mercy Health, as well as being on the board of Helping Hands Ministries, Inc. In addition, he has served and protected the city of Niles and surrounding areas, with the Ohio Department of Public Safety.

Clemate has been recognized for his community service with such rewards. The Black Diamond Leadership Award, which acknowledges role models in the African American Community. He also received the Hometown Hero Award, which acknowledges his positive aptitude.

City Kids Care, C.I.R.V. Youngstown, and SPEAK project Ohio, are a few of many nonprofits Clemate has worked with. He brought his mentorship and educational skills to enhance youth development.

Clemate has been a resident of Youngstown since birth. He graduated from Chaney High School, and attended The Youngstown State University for Exercise Science. Clemate is the owner and founder of 12 Rounds by Clemate Franklin; a fitness class that brings an outlet for the community to achieve healthy lifestyles physically, emotionally and spiritually.

Clemate’s background and experience in communications and public relations, has molded him to fit his role as the Director of Parks and Recreation. He plans to remain focused on the community needs but also the three pillars of national recreation and parks association; health and wellness, equity, and conservation. Clemate believes safety in paramount to the success of the community.

Clemate is married to Danielle Franklin, and together they have two sons.
