SMART2 Progress - Park Avenue

Construction work on Park Avenue, between Fifth Avenue and Covington Street, and Fifth Avenue, between Park Avenue and the Westbound Service Road, is nearly complete. Paving, lining, and sidewalk repair work are finished, and new LED streetlights have been installed. New traffic signals remain to be installed at the Park Avenue and Belmont Avenue intersection.

While the project is a Phase 2 component of SMART2, the work is mostly an upgrade, rather than a total redesign. Road and sidewalk dimensions remain the same, with minor changes to turning lane layouts on the Park Avenue blocks adjacent to St. Elizabeth Hospital. A newly-designated crosswalk has also been added on Fifth Avenue, between Stambaugh Auditorium and Wick Park. The route, a natural connector of St. Elizabeth Hospital, YSU, and Downtown, will be used by the planned SMART2 autonomous shuttle.
